CCDR The Center for Community Design Research

The Center for Community Design Research (CCDR) is an outreach program within ESF Department of Landscape Architecture. Working in partnership with communities, elected officials, agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and other academic programs, the CCDR provides technical assistance, educational programs, and research projects that build community capacity to manage sustainable futures.

The CCDR activities provide educational and research opportunities for community residents, students, faculty, and staff, and promote the design and planning professions through community education, modeling new ways of working, and disseminating research findings.

Arcahaie, Haiti: Independent Research Class Spring 2018

  • A group of undergraduate and graduate students are working together to learn and develop participatory techniques to engage and establish long term connections with the Arcahaie community to guide design and development of the proposed Sustainable Village Learning Community.

Visioning Voices Community Design Speaker Series:

  • March 8, 2018 Event – Joy Kuebler, Landscape Architect from the Buffalo area, is our featured speaker on the topic of Lifelong Play: Building Community through Play. Hosted by Syracuse's Southside and Strathmore neighborhoods.
  • The Visioning Voices Speaker Series provides opportunities for community members to learn more about how to lead positive change within their neighborhoods. Each event takes place in different host neighborhoods with different speakers for varying focal topics, such as safe and healthy neighborhoods, parks as valued places, and building community through life long play.

Arcahaie Haiti: 3rd year Graduate Landscape Architecture Design Studio Fall 2017

  • Graduate students from both the Landscape Architecture Department and the Environmental Studies Program collaborated in the creation of alternative master plans for the Sustainable Village Learning Center in Arcahaie, Haiti. The project is managed by SUNY Office of Global Affairs with funding by the Kellogg Foundation.
